MY HORROR STORY

200 years ago, in a very small village near to Transilvania, there was a girl called Cassandra walking around the forest with her dog, Teo, which had its leg damaged but it could keep going on. They were walking quietly along the forest and enjoying the fresh evening when they saw something come out of the blue.

At the end of the road, there was a crystal bottle with a silk scarf and a note in it. Cassandra looked around before checking the bottle in case there was someone behind them and then she opened it and read the note. At first, she thought it was just a joke but then she realised there was a direction written on the paper, so she guessed the silk scarf might be related with the house’s direction. The note also said: “you will find the truth there”. Teo smelled the silk scarf and it took them to that house.

Few minutes later, Cassandra and Teo were in front of the huge building on the point of knocking the door when Teo started trembling because of that mysterious atmosphere. The young girl decided to ring the bell hoping she would find something strange or unexpected but just an elder woman opened the door. Despite the cold air, a damp and dirty smell washed over them when the women said:

“ Cassandra? I was waiting for you.”

“Who are you and why do you know me?”said Cassandra, quite scared.

“Come in and you will know it.”answered the woman.

They came into the building without getting rid of the horrible smell. Inside, there was a lobby with a very dark hall which led to the big living room. Cassandra didn’t know why she found the place and the woman familiar. They sat down on a sofa when the elder woman started talking:

“I’m so sorry for your recent dad’s death, he was a great man.”

“Do you know him? Why? Please tell me who you are.” asked the girl nervously.

“Keep calm honey, I’m your grandmother Rose. It’s a shame we haven’t seen each other since you were a baby.” said the woman trying to calm her granddaughter.

“My grandmother?!” scream the girl. “What are you talking about?! You died ten years ago!”

“That’s the reason why you are here now. I want you to know the truth of many lies you have been believing in.”

Cassandra couldn’t say a word, she was very confused.

“Your father, hopefully resting in peace, got mad with me and I don’t even remember why. Too much time has passed and my brain and I have got older.”

“But why am I here with you after so long?” asked the girl curious.

“Easy. Because your father thought I’m a bad person so he didn’t want me to see you. Either way, I finally get to be next to you.”

“Well, but how can I trust you?”

Then Rose told her a lot of true things of Cassandra’s life and she believed her a little bit more. After, it was 9 pm when the girl said:

“It’s late and we have to leave. Maybe I will come back another day.”

“Sure honey. You will always be welcome in this home.” said Rose .

“Hum...let me ask you something. Where is this smell from?” asked Cassandra, curious.

“This house and its forniture are old. Probably that’s the reason for it, although I haven’t noticed it anymore.

Suddenly, the dog heard something and he scratched a door and Rose said:

“Stop Teo, there’s just scrap in this room.”

Clearly, the woman was lying at them because when Teo opened the door, Cassandra’s father fell from there. Rose killed him! Cassandra and Teo started running back home, far away from that terrible house. Finally, the girl realised her father was right all the time, Rose was absolutely cruel.

REFLECTION WRITING TIME: Let's talk about Covid!

1) How was the lockdown for you (positive and negative sides). According to you, was it a good idea?

The first month of lockdown was very difficult and hard to manage because it was the first time we were experiencing something like this. At the beginning, working online doing video calls with our teachers and classmates was strange but we finally got used to it.

Apart from that, we didn’t do the full six hours as we used to do before quarantine and we did a video call once or twice a week (depending on the teacher). Also, we did some exams online but we could check our notes or books while doing them if the teacher was not keeping an eye on us.

2) What do you think of the measures being applied in the school? What do you think of the anti-maskers?

I personally think the applied measures in the school are the right and the most logical ones to save us from Coronavirus, so it is very necessary to respect them to avoid a new lockdown.

Talking about the anti-maskers, I think they can believe in whatever they want and I respect them, even though I absolutely disagree with them because the Coronavirus is causing a lot of damage in the world. So the anti-maskers should realise the real danger of that virus and stop playing with human’s health.

3) What do you think of the role of the media in all this situation?

I think they are doing a great job informing us of any news related to Covid-19. Although there are other important things to talk about that maybe we don’t know because the journalists are just explaining the same all the time. So apart from Coronavirus, it would be necessary to inform us of other problems in the world.

4) How well do you think our leaders have responded to the coronavirus crisis? If you were in a leadership position, what would you do differently?

In my opinion, they were in a hard situation with a lot of pressure where they had to decide the measures that most of the people are following now. Also they had to decide and organize what to do with the lockdown and how it would be in our daily life. So I think they have done a good job, although they could have been more strict with the people who didn’t respect the measures then and right now.
